In the design of the annual report for PPG Industries, a worldwide paint and coating company, it was necessary to adhere to the corporate identity while providing a level of creativity and artistry which is inviting to read for investors.

Due to of the nature of the company, a large color palette was used and was styled to emulate color swatch samples that clients might collect when deciding on colors. The Optima typeface was chosen for its similarity to the hybrid serif found in the PPG logotype and was used in all body text. A slab-serif was used as a complimentary typeface for headlines and captions.

A strict grid was utilized to maintain a professional look and to cleanly and clearly explain important information. Tabular information was also formatted with clear organization and space to maintain legibility and fact retention.

The final annual report reflects the sophistication of a large corporation while also providing a visually stimulating layout which entices the reader and embodies the company’s broad range and flexibility.
